I can totally relate to the surface anger you expressed (last week, it came up for me when I was once again asked if I wasn't a little young to be a chaplain. Dude, I am almost 40! With over a decade of full-time ministry under my belt!)

And I can also relate to the deeper, existential frustration you write about here. I never imagined I would be a chaplain for dementia patients. And I have no clue if this is what I will be doing in a few years. At the same time, I cannot imagine being back in the church. Or really any place else. So I am here, "being with people and reminding them or introducing them to a God who loves them without fail." (Man, that is good!)

Can't watch the video now. I'm at work where they have sites like youtube diabled from the computer system. :( I will check it out when I get home.

Thanks for your post. It's good to be reminded I am not alone.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00717831890396485515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3524056022029427578.post-27351026422941698262010-03-20T11:28:48.929-06:002010-03-20T11:28:48.929-06:00I find your statement about "independence&quo...I find your statement about "independence" well stated. But having lived now, in five different regions, I would say that the blatant anonymity/isolation you experience, is unique to Kansas City. It’s almost as if we WORK at (and our Region perpetuates) being insulated to the influence of others.

I'm sorry The River has not been established and pray for your continued ministry and discernment.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3524056022029427578.post-89665811927833297762008-08-18T10:51:00.000-05:002008-08-18T10:51:00.000-05:00Thanks Kelli, for this post and for laying the gro...Thanks Kelli, for this post and for laying the groundwork for Kevin and I and all the residents to follow you at Community. Again and again, I have heard your ministry affirmed and I am grateful that you have created high expectations for all involved in this program! I am already starting to reflect on leaving my church next fall (i'll have been there 6 years!!) and it breaks my heart to leave my community even though I know that I am called to do just that. Anyway, keep writing! You are approachable and real. It makes everyone feel comfortable with you, rather than awed by your status. I have the feeling Jesus was like that.
DuaneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3524056022029427578.post-42329262351257407192008-08-01T19:49:00.000-05:002008-08-01T19:49:00.000-05:00Kelli, I find your blog most inspiring! Before coming to Community, my church experiences had been limited to the extreme right, making me question whether it is possible to "believe" AND "think".
